Am I a Fair-weather Believer?

So it’s been a tough couple of month’s and as this blog has always had one fundamental aim at heart – ‘to be real and honest’ – as a means of encouraging others, I share my own battle.

Following the death of someone very close to me, all types of negative situations have sprung up in my life. Situations where I now find myself having to battle hard over Disappointment & Bitterness.” This disappointment has (unbeknowingly) led to some resentment at how I feel I have been treated and the truth is, that leads to nowhere good.

The Lord has been very loving in His dealings with me and has continued to whisper scriptures to my heart to hold and pray through. This morning He gave me Psalm 22.

I felt to share this, as it can be hard to say that we are struggling in certain areas and bitterness, pride, anger and unforgiveness are up there among the hardest to even admit to ourselves.

So in light of the promises of God, especially with regards to overcoming our accuser (satan) by the blood of Jesus and the word of our testimony and with the aim to encourage someone else in knowing “it’s ok not to be ok – but don’t stay in that place,” I share a little of my current battle without going into the full details – believe me when I say we are complex beings.

So this is a song that I have been singing to my own heart and onto God of recent:

This next song is one that I often sing to stir up the Joy in my Heart, when just being joyful can be really difficult to do:

It’s very basic, but try singing about the Joy of Jesus and remain downcast – it’s hard to do continually.

God wants us to take done the walls of our heart. This can be difficult, as we can be left feeling defenseless, but let us not forget that God is the one who defends us Deuteronomy 32:4 (GNT):

“The Lord is your mighty defender,
    perfect and just in all his ways;
Your God is faithful and true;
    he does what is right and fair.

It’s not easy for me to share this as it’s personal, my own business and most of the time I’d rather keep my own struggles etc. to myself, but I felt led by God to do so and I dont need telling twice by Him. It’s easy to shar and encourage others when things are well (fair-weather), but the real test is in those stormy seasons.

So may:

24, The Lord bless you, and keep you [protect you, sustain you, and guard you];

25,The Lord make His face shine upon you [with favor], And be gracious to you [surrounding you with lovingkindness];

26,The Lord lift up His countenance (face) upon you [with divine approval], And give you peace [a tranquil heart and life].’

God bless you,

  1. As humans we are prone to bitterness resentment anger and resentment, as I was reading this I was also in txt with my estranged wife. I was tempted to take the rights I was entitled and make her stick to an agreement. How ever as I read Dons blog it did not sit right even though It has been agreed. I relented and gave her what she wanted, not out of weakness but because it showed the love of God. Don if you are fair weather I am nowhere. God uses us and wants us to know that when we are weak he is strong, he never leaves or forsakes us. You are a child of God and that means God will always be with you. It’s not what we think It is what God thinks of us and he loves us. Thank you Donald for being such a huge source of encouragement and thank you God your are always using others to help others.

  2. The Don that I know is not Fair weather, but wears his heart on his sleeve and speaks his mind, even if people disagree or take offence. You are a person who wants to discover more hidden truths and share them with others even when it may be so difficult or inconvenient to do. I can pay you no greater compliment than to say I wish I were more like YOU. ☺
